The company behind Minecraft’s next-gen editions has handed in the Xbox One edition for the final test. If it passes, then a release date could come at anytime in September.

The next-gen versions were initially supposed to come out in August.

The company has had trouble in its development. It handed the PS4 version to Sony for final testing on August 12 but soon announced that Sony found some issues that 4J had to fix before the game could go through the process again.

4J gave an update on August 26, telling gamers via Twitter that the PS4 version is back with Sony for final testing. “Fingers crossed...” it added.

That same day, the company also gave an update on the PlayStation Vita version. “We have a bit more work to do on #MinecraftPSVita before we can hand it over to Sony. We'll let you know when we hand it over,” it said.

And 4J also said that it has a small Xbox 360 and PS3 update, which would add the ability to upload saves to the next-gen versions of the consoles ahead of the release.

Owen Hill, an executive at Mojang, which is also involved in the development of the game, and business development head Daniel Kaplan told Total Xbox more about the transfer.

“The save gets copied to a cloud, but a separate cloud to the one we’re used to when we put our saves on Xbox,” Hill explained.

“It’s just for Minecraft, basically. You go into the game, you choose, upload your save file to be transferred later by the Xbox One. Then when you upload, you go Xbox One, it pops up, and you say ,‘OK, download this one,’” added Kaplan. “It’s only in the cloud for the process of transferring data,” said Hill.

“So it doesn’t really use the Xbox profile link thing. Usually when you save a game you say, ‘Sure, save my game file to the cloud’. The profiles are not made for the kind of huge save profiles that Minecraft’s got. That’s why you need to go into the game and select the specific world you want to transfer. It’s a different process than usually,” Kaplan explained further.

“The saves get absolutely massive. Compared to other games. Because the worlds are randomly generated, it gets... I mean you can imagine why it’s so big. The upgrade process, when you’ve got the $5 upgrade: if you’ve got it on disc you can transfer that as long as you’ve played online, basically,” Hill said.

“Yeah, well you need to have had your 360 connected to the web. You don’t even need to have a Gold account, we just need to see that this user has been playing Minecraft. The only way for the system to understand that is if this Xbox has been connected,” concluded Kaplan.

Mojang previously said that the Xbox One edition “brings significantly bigger worlds and a greater draw distance than Xbox 360 Edition” while still including all the features from the most recent Xbox 360 update. It said that the Xbox One edition will cost $19.99, but if gamers have bought the Xbox 360 version from Xbox Live Marketplace, or played online with the disc version, they will be able to upgrade to Xbox One Edition for $4.99.

And while the saves will be available to transfer between Xbox 360 to Xbox One and PlayStation 360 to PS4 and PS Vita, the saves won’t be able to transfer the other way around. The PS4 and PS Vita versions are also pegged to cost $19.99, with the $.99 upgrade working if players bought Playstation 3 Edition from the Playstation Network.
