Militants of the Al Shabab group took over and robbed the largest U.N. compound in Somalia on Thursday. Eyewitnesses report the compound, part of the United Nations World Food Program, being emptied completely including equipment such as computers and food supplies. There have been no reports of casualties. Militants control most of the lawless southern part of Somalia. Earlier the militants had threatened aid organizations saying they were not welcome and that people should buy food from local farmers. According to the U.N., an estimated 3.5 million people in Somalia are in need of humanitarian assistance. The World Food Program says it will continue their program despite the looting.
