Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim outfielder Mike Trout wins the 2012 American League Rookie of the Year award.

Mike Trout would receive 140 points (28 first-place votes). Oakland Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes finished second in the voting with 63 points (0 first-place votes). Texas Rangers starting pitcher Yu Darvish finished third in the voting with 46 points (0 first-place votes). Trout won the award unanimously.

Trout, 21, was the 25th overall pick in the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He would make his major league debut in the 2011 season. He would return to the minor leagues for the remainder of the 2011 season and the beginning of the 2012 season. On April 28, 2012, he was promoted to the major leagues and would not return to the minor leagues.

He would set an American League rookie record with 14 consecutive games of scoring at least once. Mike Trout would be selected as an All-Star and would go 1 for 1 with a walk and a stolen base.

Trout would set records as the youngest player to hit 20 home runs and steal at least 40 bases in a season.

The young outfielder would not only exhibit his offensive prowess, but his defensive skills as well. Mike Trout would rob 4 home runs during the season.

Mike Trout would finish the season with a .326 batting average with 30 home runs, 83 runs batted in, 129 runs scored and 49 stolen bases.
