A U.N. diplomat said that the peace process between Israel and Palestine is in jeopardy unless progress is made soon. The Middle East envoy, Robert Serry, is advocating more third-party involvement in negotiations, including from Russia and the EU, reported Voice of America.

Israel has not agreed to a freeze on expanding settlements in the West Bank, which has pushed U.S. diplomats to try and get Palestine and Israel into indirect talks about final details for a peace agreement.

“We accept it,” said U.S. Envoy George Mitchell, of the setbacks in negotiations. “But we are determined to persevere in our efforts until we reach the successful conclusion that I think all want,” according to a report by AP.

Mitchell says he sees a solution involving an independent Palestinian state, and secure borders for Israel.
