Michael Ketterer, a contestant on “America’s Got Talent,” was arrested on domestic violence charges, just a day after performing on the show’s finale.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that Ketterer, who placed fifth on the show, was arrested in Hollywood at 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 20, People magazine reported. His bail was set at $50,000.

The report said that he was arrested after getting into an altercation with his wife in a hotel room, and police who responded to the incident said they noticed a red mark on her body.

Ketterer, 41, told TMZ that the incident was a “misunderstanding.”

According to TMZ, his wife didn’t want to press charges against him, but he was arrested anyway.

“Law enforcement sources tell us, the case will be downgraded to a misdemeanor because the injury was so minor. We’re told the case will be referred to the L.A. City Attorney,” TMZ said.

Ketterer, during the show, told judges that his wife almost died during childbirth. He impressed the judges with a performance of Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” contestant judge Simon Cowell suggested that country singer Garth Brooks should mentor and possibly collaborate with him, Fox reported.
Brooks said of the suggestion: “I told Simon last week, the opportunity to write, and the opportunity to write for someone else, I haven’t done that in a while.”

Brooks invited Ketterer to sing during an Oct. 20 concert. “We’re going to suit you up with a band. We’re going to put you out in front of 85,000 of the sweetest people you’ve ever played for before, and they’re going to be pulling for you like no other. This is going to be good,” he said at the time.
