Michael Kazanjy has been identified as the snowboarder who lost his life in an avalanche t Jackson Hole in Wyoming.

Kazanjy lived in the area, and also spent time in the San Francisco Bay Area over the years.

The 29-year-old was with friends, one of whom was a doctor. The doctor tried to save his life but couldn’t.

Michael’s brother said in a statement obtained by KTVU that Kazanjy “loved his family, his Cal Bears, his skiing buddies and San Francisco.”

Officials at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, where Kazanjy and his friends were staying, said that the avalanche happened around 12:50 p.m. the day after Christmas.

Kazanjy was pronounced dead at the scene less than an hour later.

The avalanche happened at about 10,300 feet elevation on a slope called Pucker Face, reported AP.
