Michael Christian Martinez of the Philippines--the only Filipino in the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia--ended up at 19th overall in the men’s free skating final.

The figure skater ended up with an overall score of 184.24.

First place Yuzuru Hanyu got 280, to put the score in context.

Martinez, 19, is the first Olympic figure skater from southeast Asia.

His journey captured Filipino’s hearts as it was learned that he used to practice in a mall ice skating rink, dodging families and others to do moves.

He’s hoping his appearance garners sponsors so he can continue skating in the future.
