Two siblings were arrested after a search warrant led the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) to an unprecedented narcotics bust and the largest seizure of cash in Miami-Dade history.
According to a MDPD press release on Wednesday, June 29, following a tip by the Drug Enforcement Administration, MDPD narcotics detectives obtained a search warrant for the business of Luis Hernandez-Gonzalez, who police say has been under surveillance since 2010.
Inside the hydroponics garden supplies store called the The Blossoms Experience, which served as a front for a marijuana trafficking operation between South Florida and Tennessee, police found a safe with large sums of money.
This discovery led to a second search warrant for Luis Hernandez-Gonzalez’s home, where they were astonished at what they found.
After tearing down dry walls in the residence’s attic, police found 24 orange buckets stacked one on top of the other. Inside each bucket was $1 million total in cash made up of 150k bundles, amounting to $24 million total.
Along with the stash, police found a high-powered gun and several packages of steroids.
Luis Hernandez-Gonzalez was arrested and charged with money laundering, cannabis trafficking, conspiring to traffic cannabis, unlawful use of communication, possession of cannabis, weapon/possession while committing an offence, possession of place/purpose of trafficking.
His sister Salma Hernandez was also arrested and charged with possession of place/purpose of trafficking (marijuana), possession of place/purpose of trafficking/conspiracy (marijuana).
Salma Hernandez is being held on a $12,000 bond, while Luis Hernandez-Gonzalez is being held on $4 million bond. Law enforcement believe Gonzalez ran the operation.
