MEXICO CITY—Mexican actress Regina Torné was delighted after seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts.

“I’m glad I came,” she said after seeing the New York-based company on May 8 at Auditorio Nacional. “This is something I recommend to every sensitive person, and for those who are not sensitive, well, they should come and they will become sensitive.”

Ms. Torné has acted in dozens of films and television series since 1966 and now owns her own acting academy in Puebla. Her acting career garnered several awards, including the ACE’s “Best Actress” award in 1995.

The illustrious actress said that the rich Chinese history in Shen Yun gave her hope for the future.

“These are 5,000 years of civilization brought here, to this world that is so messed-up, so full of filth, of bad intentions, of sadness,” she said. “This makes us have more faith.”

Shen Yun tours the world with one mission—to revive the 5,000-year-old Chinese culture, and all of it’s vast cultural lexicon, including many myths and legends, and also many principles and virtues.

“Sophisticated dance techniques, an orchestra joining instruments East and West, beautiful costumes, and a stunning back drop—this is Shen Yun at first glance,” explains the company’s website. “But digging deeper, one discovers a sea of traditional Chinese culture. Mortals and divine beings merge on stage as one. Principles such as benevolence and justice, propriety and wisdom, respect for the heavens, and divine retribution, all come to life, washing over the audience. Originating from Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, these ideals are the essence of traditional Chinese culture.”

Ms. Torné praised the artists of Shen Yun.

“I want to congratulate all the performers, the choreographers, the musicians, the composers, the singers,” she said. “It is really a breath of hope.”
