Tampa Bay Rays v Toronto Blue Jays

The Mets are making good use of their $40 million loan, signing free agent, right-handed relief pitcher Frank Francisco to a two-year deal, according to a press release from the Mets.

Francisco, who spent last year with the Toronto Blue Jays, was 1-4 with 17 saves last season with a 3.55 ERA in 54 appearances. The 32-year-old had a much better second half than his season numbers suggest, with a 1.37 ERA while converting seven of seven save opportunities. From July 22-Sept. 5 the righty tossed 16 straight scoreless innings.

The Dominican Republic native was fifth among AL relievers in strikeouts over the past five seasons with 302.

This will mark the first time Francisco will pitch in the National League.
