The New York Mets nearly recovered from a six-run deficit at Citi Field on Monday night in a loss to Arizona.

Called up from the minors, Mets starter Nelson Figueroa, was peppered by the Diamondbacks for six runs, including 3 homeruns and 10 hits, in the first 1 2/3 innings. The Arizona rally was capped off by Mark Reynolds’s 420-foot shot to center field in the second.

The hot start was the only offense the D-backs could muster, for the remainder of the game the Mets bullpen held their opposition scoreless, while trying to mount the comeback.

In the fourth, Omir Santos doubled to lead off the inning. He was driven home two batters later on a triple by Angel Pagan to get the Mets on the board.

Luis Castillo singled with the bases loaded in the fifth inning to drive in two runs, while a third was driven home by David Wright’s single to left field.

Daniel Murphy homered with the bases empty in the sixth to bring the Mets within one run of Arizona, however they were unable to score again, stranding a runner on second base in the eighth inning.

The loss concluded the Mets’ four-game series against Arizona and marked their fourth loss in five games.

Next up for the Mets is a two-game series against the St. Louis.
