The Melbourne Airport was evacuated on Tuesday but soon re-opened after the scare was caused by a smoke alarm.

All staff evacuated the flight tower, while all flights in and out were grounded.

However, soon after the evacuation, passengers on planes at the airport said pilots were telling them that the scare was caused by a smoke alarm.

The airport is re-opening now.
