Formula One car manufacturer McLaren is set to release the new MP4-12C sporting a 3.8 liter V8 engine, bridging the gap between their world famous race cars and now their soon-to-be-released high end performance sports cars.

Mclaren has posted on their company website that the MP4-12C is the first in an upcoming line of high-performance sports cars inspired by their long time industry defining Formula One vehicle—the McLaren F1.

The new design will be available at retailers around the world in early 2011.

The London manufactured M838 engine is reported to be a well designed element in the car, enhancing the total package of the vehicle.

At the core of McLaren’s new model is a key component that allows the vehicle to remain at a low weight, adding to the superb handling and maximizing the output from the engine.

The carbon fiber chassis doesn’t come cheap but it definitely adds to the high-caliber design.

The list price may change but Mclaren has set two levels of performance which brings forth a different price.

The company posted that their target price for the “core” series will be between roughly $168,750 to $202,500 and their “high” category will run from $202,500 to $337,500.

The “core” model is meant to compete with the Ferrari F458 and the Lamborghini Gallardo, while the “high” model will contend with Ferrari’s 599GT and the Lamborghini Murcielago.

“Worldwide demand for high performance cars is strong, in large part because of great cars from great competitors,“ stated Ron Dennis, McLaren Automotive Chairman on their website. ”With McLaren joining that list, it will grow stronger still. What we are offering is a new approach to the market.”

McLaren is not the first Formula One designer to create a street design similar to their race cars. Subaru achieved great success with their WRX model based off their World Rally Championship design but in a slightly lower price range.
