House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) attempt to impeach Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas for the failure in dealing with the border crisis would not likely succeed, according to an immigration expert.

On Nov. 22, McCarthy said that the House of Representatives would start impeachment procedures against Mayorkas when the 118th Congress convenes on Jan. 3. McCarthy is expected to succeed Democrat Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the House. Talking to reporters at El Paso, McCarthy asked for Mayorkas’s resignation. “If Secretary Mayorkas was in charge of a private company, he would have been fired by now. The American public deserves more and expects better. Enough is enough,” he said.
In an interview with NTD’s “Capitol Report” program, Todd Bensman from the Center for Immigration Studies pointed out that the Biden administration’s policies on the border continue to remain the same.

As such, even if Mayorkas were to resign, step down, or get impeached, it might not resolve the border issue. Mayorkas would get replaced by “Mayorkas 2.0 or a sequel” who might be even worse.

“If the president is perfectly fine with having a wide open border where everybody and anybody who comes near it gets across and into the interior legally with no threat whatsoever of deportation … what’s the point?”

Prior to revealing the GOP’s plans for Mayorkas, McCarthy pointed out that 300 Americans die every day due to illegal drugs that flow into the country via the southern border. Yet, Mayorakas “does nothing” and “continues to lie to the American people” about the situation of border security.

Border Immigration

Bensman talked about spending a lot of time at the border and interviewing many immigrants. In the majority of interviews, the immigrants told him that they were coming to America because of the accommodative policies of the administration.

“They’re opening the door, they’re letting them in, they’re bringing them in on parole, they’re giving them work permits, they’re being really lavishly rewarded for their illegal entry and paying cartel smuggling fees to get in,” he said.

Bensman blamed Mayorkas’s policies for being responsible for what is happening at the U.S. border, which he calls the “greatest mass migration crisis in American history.”

The expert added that he understands why the GOP is frustrated regarding the issue and pressing the DHS secretary on the matter.

In a recent interview with Fox, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Tex.) pointed out that even if Mayorkas is impeached, the Biden administration’s policies on immigrants at the border are not going to change unless financial pressure is applied.

“We need to say that we’re not going to give blank checks to this government unless we actually say that we’re going to turn away and detain, as the current law requires,” he said.

“But unless our leadership demands that, we won’t get any change. You can have all the hearings you want, you can impeach Mayorkas.”
