House Speaker Kevin McCarthy met with President Joe Biden at the White House on Feb. 1 to discuss the debt ceiling and spending cuts, a meeting that left McCarthy hopeful of finding common ground.

“I thought it was a very good discussion. We walked out saying we will continue that discussion. And I think there is an opportunity to come to an agreement, and I think that’s the best thing,” McCarthy told reporters shortly after the one-hour conversation.
