For a few years now there has been one fight that boxing fans have wanted to see; Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao. There have been many reasons, and rumors about why this fight has yet to happen, but for right now let’s put all that aside. Imagine this, what if Ali didn’t fight Frazier, what if Gatti didn’t fight Ward; now I can go on and on, but the point is, if this fight never happens we will never know who the best really is. That is the question that this generation of boxing fans have; who is the best? On one hand you have the undefeated (46-0-26) Floyd Mayweather arguable the best technical fighter in the world. Then there is Manny Pacquiao, the eight division champion that has been a crowd favorite since his first ever fight in America. Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao, it needs to happen, and it needs to happen now.

The fight Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao may have lost some of its allure, but if this fight were to happen it will still be a huge event. There is only one reason why Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao should make this fight happen, to prove who the best is. If either one of them keeps this fight from happening there will always be a question mark, an asterisk next to their career. People want to know who the best is, and no matter what your opinion may be about either of these men, the only way that fans will ever know for sure is if they step inside that ring.

Mayweather is 37 years old, and has three fights left on the six fight contract that he signed with Showtime, then he is done. Manny Pacquiao is 35, and with congressional responsibilities in the Philippines, you would think that Pacquiao might be looking to hang it up soon as well. With Mayweather ending his career after his next three fight him and Pacquiao career nearing an end, an agreement, for this fight needs to happen soon.

As of right now there is no clear opponent for Manny Pacquiao, and with Mayweather having a very close fight with Marcos Maidana a rematch may be imminent. If Mayweather does decide to face someone other than Maidana in September the clear next choice (in my opinion) is Manny Pacquiao. With Mayweather being a promoter now, he’s controlling a lot of what goes on in his fights. If Floyd Mayweather is serious about being a promoter once he is done fighting, a fight with Manny Pacquiao would be a huge help to him. Imagine if Oscar De La Hoya never fought Mayweather; if it was not for that fight, Golden Boy Promotions would probably not be one of the biggest promotions in boxing today. Mayweather should make this fight not only to please the fans, but because it is a good business decision that would take Mayweather promotions to a whole nother level.

For Mayweather a fight with Pacquiao will not only be a good decision from a business standpoint, but it will also help him cement his legacy as the best of all time. When it comes to Manny Pacquiao this is all this fight will be about, legacy. Manny Pacquiao is already considered one of the best of all time, the only thing left for him to do now is fight Mayweather.

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao has to happen. Both of these men, regardless of whether or not this fight happens, will go down as two of the best fighters to ever step inside a boxing ring. When it comes down to it, if this fight never happens there will always be that question for both men, what would have happened? Whatever the problem maybe it needs to be pushed aside; it needs to be pushed aside for one night so that fans may finally get the answer to the question, who would win if Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao happened.
