Matt Healy, the singer of The 1975, hasn’t died, but Twitter rumors are saying otherwise.

On Wednesday, “RIP Matt Healy” or “RIP Matthew Healy” trended for a time.

It’s unclear where or why the rumor originated. But many were tweeting “RIP Matt Healy 1975-2014,” in reference to his band, The 1975.

No mainstream media outlets have covered his rumored death.

“Twitter has claimed another victim I see. Matt Healy isn’t dead you [expletive] morons,” one person wrote on Twitter.

“Nearly believed matt healy had actually died then but it’s just some random girl who started the rumour what hahaha,” one person wrote on Twitter.

A large number of death hoaxes have proliferated via Twitter in recent years, including one last month about Bill Nye dying which then sent users to a video of Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up,” one about Justin Bieber dying, and other fake celebrity deaths.
