Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.
At least that’s the case with Matt Barnes’ latest Instagram post.
Barnes posted this satisfied, vindicated, I-told-you-so photo of himself just hours after news surfaced that his ex-friend Derek Fisher had been fired by the New York Knicks.
The caption-less photo pretty much sums up what Barnes feels about his ex-teammate Fisher getting canned.
When they were teammates (with the Los Angeles Lakers) from 2010–12 they actually became good friends. But the relationship went bad last fall when Barnes found out Fisher was dating his estranged wife Gloria Govan. Barnes drove to Govan’s home to confront Fisher.
Barnes, who now plays for the Memphis Grizzlies, was suspended two games for his role in the altercation and was then fined $35,000 for saying, “Violence is never the answer, but sometimes it is,” before a game against the Knicks earlier this season.
Then Barnes fired off this Instagram post at the beginning of January detailing how he really feels about the whole situation.
Barnes in the caption says,”Thank God For 2016! 2015 hands down was the worst year of my life! * *Lost the women I loved, the mother of my kids, my Dogg.. I had to walk away from the only thing I’ve wanted, MY OWN FAMILY! ‘They call that karma’ *To being traded away from a team & city I love!”
He goes on to say,”Last BUT NOT LEAST… Being stuck in the ‘triangle offense’ w my ex & snitch, I mean former teammate & friend.. Who went behind my back, messed w my ex, got caught, got dealt w for being a snake, then ran & told the Police & NBA.
“Guess cause I didn’t SNITCH, I get a 2 game suspension by the league ‘They call that LIFE’.”
Barnes eventually comes full circle in the post owning up to his part in everything.
“I say all this not for sympathy, because I had a hand in all the bad [derogatory term omitted] that happened.. I was never perfect in my relationship, I didn’t see eye to eye w my head coach.. I was warned SEVERAL times about ole girl & I introduced love ones to people who I ‘thought were FRIENDS’… Lesson Learned!! This is for all of you who had a [derogatory term omitted] up year.”
Maybe 2016 will be better for him. Looks like he’s enjoying it more already.
