Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) will introduce legislation designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization on March 7 after protesters allegedly aligned with the group set fire to the site of future police and fire training facility in Atlanta.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, the fire was sparked on March 5 when, in a “coordinated attack” on police, a group of anti-police protesters launched rocks, bricks, Molotov cocktails, and fireworks at responding officers and the construction equipment being used to build the facility.

According to journalist Andy Ngo, the violent agitators were from Defend the Atlanta Forest, a far-left extremist group allegedly linked to the so-called antifascist Antifa movement.

Greene, responding to the attack on Twitter, wrote, “Antifa are domestic terrorists and I’m introducing my resolution to officially declare them a terrorist organization on Tuesday [March 7].”
Those protesting [against] the public safety facility—which they refer to as “Cop City”—have argued that it will damage the surrounding environment and “further militarize police in Georgia.”

Ultimately, March 5’s attack damaged multiple pieces of equipment and resulted in 23 arrests on charges of domestic terrorism.

Of those arrested, only two were Georgia residents, with the vast majority coming from out-of-state—including two individuals from Canada and France.

The list also included a Southern Poverty Law Center attorney named Tom Jurgens.

Greene, noting that the violence had been “planned for weeks” and promoted via social media, added: “Antifa are self-proclaimed communists and consistently organize to attack our government over and over again.

“They should be taken seriously and not tolerated anymore.”

In March 2021, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) introduced similar legislation to designate Antifa as a terrorist organization, but the political climate in the Democrat-controlled House was less than favorable.
Greene, for her part, has characterized the Antifa movement as not only a terrorist organization but an arm of the Democrat Party, telling Fox News’ Tucker Carlson that the group constituted the party’s “ground troops.”
“[Democrats] breed them, they raise them, and then they bail them out of jail when they get arrested, but they never get prosecuted,” the congresswoman noted in January after a shootout between protesters and Atlanta police resulted in the death of one activist and severe injuries to a Georgia state trooper.

“They are not the antifascists—they are the fascists,” she continued, adding, “We’ve had it with them, and it’s time to do something about it.”
