The Marine Corps got flak for an oddly worded “lone shooter” message for MLK weekend.

Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday was January 15 and activities are planned across the country this weekend. Monday is a federal holiday.

The U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC) sent out a message via Twitter and Facebook saying: “Don’t be lone shooter #MLK weekend! make sure you’ve got security- stay safe! #MARSOC #Marines #shortbarrelforVBSS.”

Before the message was deleted, the Corps got flak for the message.

“Distasteful tweet,” said one Twitter user.

“We’ve got an early leader for least ok MLK day tweet,” said another. “Yeesh that’s horrible.”
