The Amazon is home to a range of creatures many of us don’t even know about.

Sometimes even locals are stunned by what they find there, such as this man who was fishing. The monster that emerges is actually a fish.

Called an arapaima, it’s one of the largest freshwater fish in the world.

It can grow up to 8 feet long, and weigh up to 440 pounds.

Arapaimas date back more than 250 million years, with armor-like scales covering their bodies that not even piranhas can break through.
