PARAMOUNT, Calif.—Sheriff’s deputies announced on Jan. 4 that they are investigating the stabbing death of a man in Paramount earlier in the week possibly during a failed attempt to steal his car.

The crime occurred at about 11:59 p.m. Monday in the 6800 block of San Carlos Street, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Lakewood Station deputies responded to the location regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call for service,” sheriff’s Deputy Trina Schrader said in a statement. “When they arrived, they found a man lying in the street suffering from an apparent stab wound to the upper torso.”

The 27-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, Schrader said. His name was not immediately released.

KTLA5 reported that the victim was stabbed during an attempt to steal his gray Volkswagen sedan, which remained parked at the scene afterward. Deputies did not confirm that, but said there was evidence suggesting the car was involved in the crime.

Neighbors said they heard arguing, and the victim may have been briefly dragged by his own car, the station reported.

Anyone with information on the crime was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or online at lacrimestoppers.org.
