The New York City Police Department released yet another video that shows uniformed officers getting doused with water.
Recent water bucket attacks on NYPD’s law enforcement agents have stirred up an ongoing outrage.
The suspect then squirts the two officers from the water bottle he is holding before walking away, leaving the officers wet but uninjured. He also appeared to be recording his attack with a cell phone in his left hand.
The NYPD offers a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of the attacker. They also request anyone with information about this incident to call the agency’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
This latest clip surfaced after a string of similar anti-police attacks that sparked outrage not only in the city but also across the nation. In the worst of the incidents, in Harlem last Sunday, July 21, officers making an arrest were surrounded by mobsters and soaked with water. The video shows a shirtless man threw a red bucket at the officers, hitting one in the head. The cops carried on doing their job, while the mob jeered.
These incidents have led to a war of words that involved NYPD commissioner James O'Neill, mayor Bill de Blasio, and Edward Mullins, the president of the Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA). The head of the sergeant union criticizes de Blasio’s policies, saying he should be held responsible for the anti-police sentiment that troubles the city.
“Rather than try to bring peace, and bring people together, he takes the opportunity to build upon his base, and keep the anti-police atmosphere in existence, which in turn creates harms-way for officers that are out on patrol,” said Mullins in an interview
Mullins has also accused O’Neill of being incompetent, calling for his resignation before these humiliating attacks turn fatal.
