HARTFORD, Conn.—A Connecticut man has been sentenced to 180 years in prison for the bludgeoning deaths of his mother and two other people in what a prosecutor called a fit of hatred and rage.

The Hartford Courant reports that Brett Bednarz was sentenced Friday in Hartford Superior Court.

A jury in January convicted Bednarz of three murder charges in the deaths of his mother, 74-year-old Beverly Therrien, and two houseguests, Michael Ramsey and Pamela Johns. The bodies were found in Therrien’s East Hartford home on Thanksgiving Day 2010.

Bednarz’s first trial ended in a hung jury last year.

Prosecutors say Bednarz hated his mother and blamed her for his father’s death.

Bednarz denied involvement. His lawyers said there was little evidence linking him to the crime scene.
