SAN LORENZO, Calif.—Authorities say a man driving in a stolen truck evaded Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies in suburban San Francisco, jumped over a fence and fell from a freeway overpass to his death into a cemetery below.

San Jose TV station KNTV reported Thursday that Sgt. J.D. Nelson says deputies spotted the driver about 12:30 a.m. Thursday. The driver led them on a low speed chase, before he stopped near Highway 238, hopped out of the vehicle and ran.

Nelson said the man scaled a fence on the shoulder of the road and fell 30 to 40 feet to his death from the freeway overpass. His body was found shortly afterward, on the ground of the San Lorenzo Pioneer Cemetery. His name and age were not released.

A passenger in the man’s car wasn’t injured.
