When two men with knives demanded Othon Maldonado’s wallet and cellphone, he quickly complied.

But when they tried to force his pregnant wife into their car, he fought them.

The kidnappers then slashed his throat, stabbed him in the head and hands and kicked him after he fell to the pavement, KCCI8 reported.

Almost three weeks have passed since the muggers left Maldonado gushing blood in the parking lot of a Whataburger in northwest Houston at 1 a.m. on Dec. 18.

Police are still looking for the two suspects, who they say are extremely dangerous. Investigators released a composite drawing of one of the suspects in hopes that someone may recognize the man.

“On a threat scale of one to ten,  I’d say this guy is a ten. He’s just about as dangerous as they get.” Houston Police Department Robbery Detective Jeff Brieden told Click 2 Houston. “He cut him up really bad. Which tells me it wouldn’t have bothered this guy one bit if he had killed him.”

Sandra Martinez, Maldonado’s wife, got him into their car and rushed him to a hospital. Maldonado spent 18 days at the hospital and was released on Thursday.

The attack occurred in the 400 block of W. Little York Road in Houston. Maldonado and his wife stopped by the Whataburger for breakfast. As soon as they stepped out of their car the two men approached them.

After slashing and stabbing Maldonado, the two men jumped into a newer model four-door black car and drove.

Police describe the first suspect as a Hispanic man, 30 to 35 years old, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches, 225 to 250 pounds, black shirt, blue jeans, short hair, medium complexion and tattoo with “Houston” written on his right arm.

Police describe the second man as a Hispanic man, 30 to 35 years old, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches, 160 to 200 pounds, short hair and dark complexion.
