According to reports from the Falun Gong website Minghui.net, Falun Gong practitioner Cao Dong has been missing since his meeting with Edward McMillan-Scott, Vice-President of the European Parliament two months ago. His whereabouts remain unknown.
It was reported on Minghui.net that on May 21, two Falun Gong practitioners, Cao Dong and Niu Jin, were interviewed by Edward McMillan-Scott in Beijing about the Chinese communist regime’s persecution of Falun Gong, specifically about the harvesting of organs from living Falun Gong practitioners. On the same day, Cao disappeared.
Mr. Scott subsequently publicized his experiences and feelings about this Beijing trip. He pointed out that the Chinese communist regime “remains a brutal, arbitrary, paranoid system” and called for an end to the persecution.
Illegal Property Confiscation and Detention
On May 26, five men and one woman dressed in street clothes searched Cao’s house (Room 704, Unit 3, Baozhuzihutong, Zhaojialou, Beijing) and confiscated his personal property. They did not inform Cao’s family in accordance with the law; did not show their identification papers or provide a receipt for the confiscated property.
An informer disclosed that Cao had been abducted and was being detained by National Security Bureau police. Minghui.net condemned the Chinese Communist regime for violating the law because regulations in Mainland China require them to inform the detainee’s family in writing within 24 hours, stating the cause, time and location of arrest. The period of detention must be less than one month; otherwise it becomes an illegal detention exceeding the period stipulated by the law.
Two months have gone by and Cao is still in detention. No notice has ever been sent Cao’s family. When his family asked the 610 Office, the Public Security Bureau, and the National Security Bureau system for Cao’s whereabouts, they all refused to explain why he was arrested or reveal where he is detained. They even claimed that it was not within the scope of their responsibility to disclose this.
Family Suffers
Cao’s in-laws in Beijing have been very concerned about Cao’s arrest. His father-in-law had severe symptoms of ringing in the ears two days after the arrest. The doctor’s diagnosis indicated that it was caused by severe mental distress and there was no treatment. Cao’s parents live in Gansu Province with their young daughter. His father has a severe heart condition caused by the persecution of Cao and his wife previously. No one dares to tell them about Cao’s arrest for fear that his father might not survive the bad news.
