ANAHEIM—A man was in custody today for allegedly fatally stabbing another man at a homeless shelter in Anaheim, police said.

Alvaro Sahagun, 57, of Anaheim was arrested in the death of Marcos Zavala, 36, also of Anaheim, said Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer. Sahagun was booked on suspicion of murder, and was being held on $1 million bail.

Anaheim police officers went to the Salvation Army shelter in the 1400 block of South Salvation Place about 6 a.m. March 14, and found Zavala suffering from at least one stab wound, Carringer said. Zavala died at a hospital. Sahagun was arrested at the scene, Carringer said.

“Detectives are not discussing a motive for the murder,” Carringer said.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
