A San Francisco man was taken into custody Wednesday for making threatening phone calls to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Pelosi, who played a key role in rounding up the Democratic caucus to pass the health care reform bill in the House, attracted some negative attention from an alleged telephone terrorist as the bill was being worked on.

The LA Times confirmed that 48-year-old Gregory Lee Giusti was apprehended by the FBI for making threatening calls to Pelosi at two of her homes and her husband’s office.

Pelosi’s press representative Brendan Daly said on April 7 Pelosi “thanks the FBI, the Capitol Hill Police, House Sergeant at Arms, and other law enforcement officials for their professionalism in this matter. She will have no further comment at this time.”

The FBI sent officials from their San Francisco office to detain Giusti and his case file is being kept under wraps until his upcoming court date on Thursday. Giusti’s neighbors reported that he was obnoxious and had frequent political arguments that could be heard from his home.

Giusti could face serious consequences for his alleged actions but no specific charges or potential sentences have been released.

Giusti is accused of harassing and threatening Pelosi by implying that he would blow up her home.
