GARDEN GROVE, Calif.—A Garden Grove man is in custody Dec. 11 on suspicion of committing two armed robberies in Garden Grove last month.

Tien Van Vo, 39, is booked in the Orange County Jail in Santa Ana, said Sgt. Evan Beresford of the Garden Grove Police Department.

Detectives used the descriptions and evidence left at the scenes to identify the suspect as Van Vo. During their follow-up on his whereabouts, they learned Van Vo had been booked at the jail on unrelated charges on Thursday, Beresford explained.

The first robbery was at 3:50 a.m. Nov. 14 at an Arco ampm Store located in the 13500 block of Brookhurst Street.

The suspect entered the store, pointed a black semiautomatic handgun at the clerk, and demanded money from the cash register, according to police. He stole approximately $500 before running out of the store.

The second robbery occurred over two hours later at 5:48 a.m. at another Arco ampm Store located in the 13500 block of Euclid Street.

The suspect entered the store, threw a bag over the counter, and demanded the clerk put money into the bag while he feigned having a handgun in his waistband, Beresford said.

After the clerk put approximately $300 into the bag, the suspect demanded he fills the bag with cigarettes before fleeing the store on foot.

This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the incidents is asked to contact Det. Franks of the Garden Grove Police Department at 714-741-5836.
