A South Carolina man accused of spraying a liquid with a fecal odor at a supermarket pleaded not guilty to federal charges on Wednesday, Dec. 27.

Pau Hang, 41, was arrested after he sprayed a “brown liquid” on a Harris Teeter salad bar, produce, and other items in West Ashley on Oct. 15 by Charleston police. The substance was later tested positive for feces, reported The Post and Courier, citing police.
Hang was described as a “disgruntled contractor” for the store who was angry because he thought the business owed him money, reported Fox News.

The 41-year-old was indicted on Dec. 13 on charges of tampering with consumer goods with reckless disregard to people and tainting products with intent to damage a business.

He was accused of spraying “foods and fresh produce, and items in the deli food area, the prepared food bar, the prepared salad bar and the sushi bar,” reported The Post and Courier, citing the indictment. Authorities estimates Hang ruined about $3,000 worth of food.

He was initially arrested on state charges of tampering with food products and malicious injury to personal property which were later changed to federal charges, reported the newspaper.

Hang remains in jail on a $200,000 bond. If convicted on the federal charges, Hang could be sentenced to 13 years in prison.
