Malik Navid, Former Pakistan Inspector General, Arrested

November 20, 2013 Updated: July 18, 2015

Malik Navid, former inspector general of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) was arrested for allegedly misusing his authority.

Navid is accused by the National Accountability Bureau of illegally recruiting about 500 people in his role as Frontier Constabulary Commandment.

“Naveed made millions in an arms purchase deal worth Rs6 billion with a Chinese firm a few years back,” one investigator said, reported the Express Tribune.

Naveed was detained in 2011 in the case but a court ordered his release.

Naveed admitted during the case that he “relaxed recruitment rules and procedure” but that he “was left with no option” after 22 soldiers were killed in a single day and 50 to 60 percent of soldiers deserted.

It appears that though he was acquitted he will be tried in the same or a similar case.
