Major US Cities Increase Security Following Brussels Attacks

Major cities across the United States have ramped up their security, following the bombings that shook Brussels on March 22. 

The Department of Homeland Security released a statement after the attacks detailing the heightened security measures. 

“The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have procedures in place to identify and prevent travel here from Belgium by individuals of suspicion,” said DHS officials in a press release.

The TSA is adding additional security to major city airports across the country.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo released a statement saying, “I have directed state law enforcement officials to step up security at high-profile locations around the state, including our airports, bridges, tunnels and mass transit systems.”

In Germany, Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said they were taking increased security measures at critical infrastructures in the country and along its borders with France, Belgium and the Netherlands.
