Mainland Chinese Tourist Attempts Suicide in Taipei, Protests Injustice

In the afternoon of November 12, a 35-year-old tourist from China suddenly rushed toward the Office of the President, Republic of China (Taiwan), and repeatedly stabbed himself in the neck with a knife.

In the afternoon of November 12, a 35-year-old tourist from China suddenly rushed toward the Office of the President, Republic of China (Taiwan), and repeatedly stabbed himself in the neck with a knife. He shouted out “I am appealing against injustice. Please let me die.” He is now in a hospital in stable condition.

Chen, from the mainland, arrived in Taiwan in the afternoon and went directly to the Presidential palace on Ketagalan Boulevard . As he was repeatedly stabbing himself with a knife he had concealed, he shouted: “I’ve got something to appeal, let me die”. He was bleeding severely from a wound about 7cm in length, according to Taiwan news reports.

The police officers on duty, immediately pinned Chen to the ground and confiscated the knife. He was then taken to hospital.

It is reported that the presidential motorcade actually was passing by when the man stabbed himself. So, all officials official in the motorcade witnessed Chen’s attempt at self-harm.

According to police information, the man is reported as a tourist from mainland China, who left the group he was with and came to the Presidential Office alone. As for the reason why he attempted to kill himself, further investigations are being conducted by the National Immigration Agency.
