NEW YORK—America’s popular magic, music, and illusion presenters, The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, kicked off the summer Beach Bash Party by introducing a new circus program called ‘The Coney Island Illuscination,’ on Tuesday.

“Coney Island is undergoing an unbelievable transformation to once again reclaim its rightful title as America’s greatest,” said Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, “Unbelievable,” he added. Markowitz stood surrounded by Coney Island local students from I.S. 228 students who shouted with excitement at his remarks.

Students from I.S. 228, David A. Boody Middle School welcomed all the performers of the illuscination show with a paper mâché model of Susie the elephant, along with the school’s Drum line and Chinese classical dance team.

Sand sculptor Matt Long carved Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey into sand that was brought in by Susie the elephant in an oversized pail which was a gift from the school to the Ringling Bros. team. Clown Dean Kelly, who will host the show, entertained the kids with silly tricks, giving them a preview of what to expect at the show this summer.

Coney Island recently opened Luna Park, an amusement park with 19 brand new rides to revive the communities’ interest in Coney’s attractions. “I think it was kind of boring, you keep getting on the same rides, over and over again and now they have new rides, new game rooms, it’s actually more fun,” said Kalilah Roberts, a student from I.S. 228, who visited the Beach Bach as part of a field trip.

“The rides are awesome,” approved Silvana Quiroz, as the girls all agreed that they will be visiting the attractions much more often now. On Tuesday, the girls looked forward to going on the Cyclone as their first ride of the summer season.
