Police officials in Wisconsin know of radicals claiming they carried out the attack against a pro-life group and warning of future attacks.
“The Madison Police Department is aware of a group claiming responsibility for the arson at Wisconsin Family Action and are working with our federal partners to determine the veracity of that claim,” a spokesperson for the department told The Epoch Times in an email.
In a statement sent to Bellingcat reporter Robert Evans, a group named Jane’s Revenge said that the arson was “only a warning.”
“Next time the infrastructure of the enslavers will not survive,” they said.
If pro-life groups and clinics are not disbanded within the next 30 days, the group is vowing further attacks.
“Wisconsin is the first flashpoint, but we are all over the U.S., and we will issue no further warnings,” the statement said, adding that the radicals will “adopt increasingly extreme tactics to maintain freedom over our own bodies.”
Evans said he was conveyed the statement through a trusted intermediary.
The FBI did not respond to a request for comment.
Local, state, and federal authorities are investigating the arson, which took place early May 8 at the office of Wisconsin Family Action, a group that advocates for pro-life policies.
Two molotov cocktails were thrown into the office and left damage to the interior, which was empty at the time, officials said at a press conference on Monday.
No update has been held since. No arrests have been made.
Julaine Appling, president of the pro-life group, said the attack was “directly provoked” by the recent leak of a Supreme Court draft opinion that indicates the court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Graffiti scrawled on the side of the building said, “If abortions aren’t safe, then you aren’t either.”
Symbology commonly used by Antifa, a far-left, anarcho-communist network, was also left at the scene.
Evans, the reporter who was passed the statement by those who took credit for the attack, has in the past expressed support for Antifa. For instance, he called the arson of the Portland police union building in 2020 “an intelligent, deliberate, and successful action by well-organized activists” and claimed the building “was a well-chosen target” while the burning of it “was a justified act of protest against a valid target.”
