Madeleine McCann Case: Scotland Yard Shown Dossier on Burglars

Police investigating the Madeleine McCann case were shown a secret dossier during their investigation, it was reported this week.

Portuguese police are showing the dossier on burglars to Scotland Yard detectives.

McCann disappeared from the Praia da Luz resort in Portugal during a family vacation in May 2007 when she was 3. In October, Scotland Yard officially reopened the case into the girl’s disappearance.

The Daily Express reported that British police have looked at files about burglaries near the resort, and some of the burglaries included child abuse.

“Burglars go anywhere and everywhere in Luz and normally break in during the middle of the night when you’re asleep,” a local businesswoman was quoted as saying. “It’s been going on for years, well before Madeleine disappeared. Police here are aware of the problem, but the public [is not].”

Scotland Yard offices are reportedly investigating three suspects in the case. Some local media reports are saying they are former employees at the resort where McCann disappeared.

The Mirror reported that local woman Luisa Rodrigues was recently questioned by Portuguese police, who believe that her dead husband, Euclides Lopes Monteiro, was the prime suspect.

“I know Euclides didn’t take Madeleine. He came out of prison a changed man. He had made an honest life for himself and was a good and caring father and companion,” the woman told the Mirror. “If I thought he had anything to do with Madeleine’s disappearance I would have been the first to turn him in.”
