TORONTO—The ongoing festivities at Luminato are coming to a yummy close. This weekend President’s Choice 1,000 Tastes of Toronto presents the city’s diverse cuisines packed in vendor stands starting from 100 John St. and going south.
Some highlights include Queen Margherita’s authentic Italian pizza. The most entertaining part is watching the round dough bake to a crispy goodness in a brick stove fuelled by logs. Longs lines can also be spotted at the cheeseburger spring roll stand, a recipe by Susur Lee.
The most mouth-watering display belongs to Woodlot. This bakery by day and restaurant from 5:00 pm teases the crowd with glazed, lemon, and chocolate Madeleine cakes.
Jedd’s frozen custard helps keep the temperature in the comfort zone and aids against the summer rays. More flavours are expected on Sunday, June 19th.
All food items at the President’s Choice 1,000 Tastes of Toronto are exchanged with tickets that can be purchased at the event for five dollars each.

On Saturday afternoon the crowd was treated to contemporary Arabic songs by Natacha Atlas and Turkish music by Minor Empire.
Ozgu Ozman, the vocals of Toronto-based Minor Empire, sang with a clear voice and excited a crowd to bring out their Middle Eastern moves. When Natacha Atlas appeared, the festival stage roared with claps. The Anglo-Egyptian singer mixes Arabic sounds with Western elements and sings in English, Arabic and French. Atlas takes a peaceful stance between Judaism and Islam, a theme reflected by many of her lyrics.
Under the direct sun, Atlas looked cool and well composed. Although the backstage personnel had to bring out a fan for the singer, her soothing calmness and hypnotic voice did not reveal any signs of discomfort. Instead, Atlas led us into a daydream of starlit lapis skies and Middle Eastern sentiments.
The Luminato Festival will come to a close on Sunday, June 19th with a final concert, more talks, and delicious food.
