JKN gave the Knights a cricket lesson in the LSW derby last weekend.

After taking two wickets in the first three overs, LSW Knights struggled against their more experienced club side LSW JKN in their match at Mission Road last Sunday Dec 16. The youngsters had a few near misses and two important dropped catches that might have restricted their club-mates total, but on this occasion the senior side showed them how to play.

A good batting performance by N.M. Khan (45) who joined N. Hameed with the score on 11, put on a third wicket stand of 67 runs before Khan was well caught in the outfield with the score at 78. JKN wicket keeper and number three batsman N. Hameed went on to score a professional looking 70 before being bowled by M. Balal, making the score 173 for seven wickets.

It was not all plain sailing and all batsmen struggled a little against their opponents bowling, but JKN amassed a sizable total. All of the lower order batsmen chipped in with useful scores and S. Haq carried his bat having scored 21. LSW JKN finished on 240 for nine wickets off their 50 overs.

Although the Knights have a number of up-and-coming cricketers, several of whom are in the Hong Kong Under-19 squad, but on the day did not have the bowling or batting clout to outplay JKN.

In reply, the captain of Knights, J.K. Hussain hit a sparkling 25 and began to push the score along with partners G. Singh (13) and the promising young 15-year-old wicketkeeper T. Furqan (14). However, the bowling of JKN’s Hong Kong spinner M.M. Ahmed (Munir Dar), the two Khan’s (W. and E.) and A. Singh Gill soon got control and the Knights were dismissed for 95 in 28.1 overs.

E. Khan finished with bowling figures of four for 23 off 10 overs. M.M. Ahmed picked up a remarkable three wickets for six runs from five overs and A. Singh Gill took two wickets for one run in 2.1 overs.

This was the only match to take place on Sunday Dec 16 in Round 12 of the Hong Kong Cricket Association Sunday League.
