A Louisiana woman was arrested and charged with murder after police said she used boiling cooking oil to attack her friend following an argument.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office said officers were sent to the 1700 block of Creole Street in LaPlace around 6:45 a.m. on Feb. 26.
Officers found Alena Populis, 50, sitting near the front door with severe burns on her face and body.
The woman told officers she and her friend Stacey Williams Sylvester, 56, got into an argument the previous night.
Deputies located Sylvester walking to her home shortly after and arrested her.
An initial charge of aggravated second-degree battery was upgraded to second-degree murder after Populis succumbed to her injuries on March 5.
Sylvester is being held on $485,000 bond.
The nature of the argument wasn’t stated publicly.
