Montana Woman Wins $460,096 on Lotto
A Montana woman won a Wild Card jackpot worth $460,096 three days before her ticket expired.
The ticket was due to expire on Friday when Louise Malvey redeemed it. The ticket was bought at a local shop over six months ago, but according to Malvey, she had lost and forgotten about the ticket until she found it while moving.
The ticket contained one line with five numbers and a Wild Card, the Queen of Diamonds. That set of numbers was worth $460,095. An extra dollar was added to the prize through a second set of numbers Malvey had that matched only the Wild Card.
Parachuting Investment Manager Fails to Evade Law
A investment manager that faked his death in a plane crash to evade the law was found by U.S. Marshals.
Marcus Schrenker, 38, was found by investigators on Tuesday at a northern Florida campground. Two days earlier, Schrenker, an amateur daredevil pilot, had tried to fake his death by plane crash. Authorities believe he had parachuted to the ground and later sped off on a motorcycle that he had hidden in central Alabama.
When investigators found Schrenker, he was bleeding from a slashed wrist and was airlifted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
Colorado Legislator Seeks Slow Driver Tickets
A new bill proposed by Colorado legislator is seeking to ticket slow left lane drivers.
Under House Bill 1042 proposed by Rep. Mike Merrifield (D-Colorado Springs), anyone going under the speed limit and blocking more than five other vehicles in the process would be subject to a ticket.
Merrifield said he came up with the idea in the summer when he became one of 47 vehicles trapped behind a RV.
However, the bill’s opponents question the practical implications of the measure.
The bill was rejected over the summer by the Legislature’s interim transportation committee, but was brought back by Merrifield.
Boys Missing for Two Years Found with Grandparents
Two boys who have been missing since 2006 were found on Monday in Fort Bend County, Texas living with their maternal grandparents.
The boys, ages 5 and 6, were allegedly abducted in 2006 by parents Adrian Castillo and Jolene Valencia at a family birthday celebration.
Castillo and Valencia had their parental rights terminated after the two brought their 2-month-old son to the hospital. The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office later determined that the infant died of starvation.
Currently, authorities have no plans of returning the two boys to family members.
