A growing protest against “war with Syria” is stopping traffic around Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in Los Angeles, and police have already arrested one person.

The protesters, calling the event “Last Stand: No War With Syria,” said on Facebook that “We are peacefully protesting the escalation of US military involvement in Syria, as well as the complete disregard of the will of the American people in the decision to begin a new war.”

“We in no way support the actions of the Assad regime, but are convinced that US intervention will instigate more violence and suffering,” the protest organizers added.

The event was scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Several hundred people are there, according to posts and pictures shared on Twitter. Over 2,500 people said they were going on Facebook.

LAPD’s Hollywood bureau said via Twitter: “Anti-war in Syria protest has drawn a couple of hundred protestors to Hollywood and Highland. Traffic is terrible. Avoid the area.”
