LOS ANGELES—Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was the keynote speaker at the final banquet of the US Asia Business Forum (USABF), which aims to promote trade, commerce, investments, and joint ventures between the two continents.

The week’s events included young ambassadors from almost every country in South and East Asia. These ambassadors represented their countries and many wore their traditional cultural clothing.

“Los Angeles has much to gain from a stronger trade relationship with our business partners from Asia,” said Villaraigosa, addressing the audience at the forum. “The trade growth between California and Asia is a force to be fostered. I am very pleased to witness the leadership that the USABF has shown to promote bilateral trade with Asia.”

The USABF hopes to move society beyond political boundaries to a single, commerce-based society. In this effort, it is promoting the positive attributes of many cultures and traditions.

“By enhancing the business climate, building relationships, motivating and facilitating individuals in their pursuit of prosperity, we all win with stronger economies,” said Villaraigosa.

Also speaking at the forum was Sultan Ahmed, minister of State of Tourism in India. “India has one of the most diverse historical treasuries in the civilized world. These include various civilizations and very diverse cultures,” said Ahmed. “India has supported the preservation and development of its ancient heritage for its own people and the people of the world.”

According to recent trade information, the United States benefits greatly in trade with India, yet surrounding India are revolts and terrorism. The forum advocates “victory of democracy against terrorism” and “global peace through global trade.”

“[India] also has a stable weather environment,” continued Ahmed. “Unlike China and other countries along the Pacific Ocean, India does not have monsoons. More foreigners are coming to India each year to enjoy the diverse cultures, scenery and geography. India was the destination for one million Americans last year.”

The message is that diverse cultures, traditions, and peoples can live together in peace and harmony and work together to move beyond poverty.

Celebrities dotted the stage throughout the event. Among them, pianist Omar Akram was charting new forms of New Age music. Omar’s latest album, titled, Echoes of Love, was released in early June to critical acclaim. It was clear after his performance that the audience agreed.

Singers, dancers, and even a beauty pageant with a five-star meal entertained those at the final event.
