A little boy was ecstatic to receive a PlayStation 4 for Christmas but when he and his father went to set it up they found no console inside the box.
Instead there was a wooden replica in its place that had crude writing on it.
Kristin Lundy says she and her husband bought their 9-year-old son the gaming system and he yelled in joy when unwrapping it.
“YES THIS IS THE BEST CHRISTMAS EVER DAD CAN WE SET THIS UP NOW,” her son shouted, Lundy said on Facebook.
But to their shock, when they opened the box all that was inside was a wooden replica.
“This has ruined his belief in Santa…. Buyers be aware of this scam,” Lundy said.
“He’s crying and he’s upset and he’s in the playroom by himself and he just wants to be alone so at that point. I was crushed,” she added to Fox25.
The Massachusetts residents soon rushed back to the store and tried to return to fake console for a real one. The manager at the Target in Saugus agreed and also added in a gift card.
“They not only gave us a new game system but they also gave us a $100 gift card as well as an additional game that the original game that was supposed to be in the box. Couldn’t have been any kinder,” Lundy said.
Target says the scam happens occasionally.
