At least two people were killed on Sunday when gunmen opened fire inside the Joy Jesus Church in Lokoni, which is just south of the port city of Mombasa in Kenya.

Another 10-plus were injured, reported Capital FM.

“Two people have been killed, they were shot by gunmen who shot indiscriminately at worshippers and fled,” local police chief Robert Mureithi said.

He didn’t comment on whether the attack was linked to terrorism. Al Shabab militants have committed similar attacks in Nairobi, Mombasa, and other towns.

Pictures from the scene show dozens of people outside the church while police investigate what happened.

Kenya’s disaster operations said via Twitter that there are mass casualties, meaning a combination of deaths and injuries, and that the nearest hospital is on standby.
