Life In A Day, likely to become the world’s largest online cinematic experiment,is set to collect all of its footage during a 24-hour period on July 24.
Oscar winning director Kevin Macdonald will direct the film; though anyone whose footage is used will be listed as a co-director, according to the Life in a Day website. Robin Hood director Ridley Scott is producing the endeavor.
On July 24, Youtube users have the chance to upload a video clip focusing on “a glimpse of your life on camera” via the “lifeinaday” Youtube channel, according to the project’s official website. The footage needs to have been shot July 24, 2010.
The clips will then be examined, and the most creative and inspiring footage will be selected for use in the resulting “Day in a Life” documentary film, which is slated to be shown at the next Sundance Festival in January, 2011. The director and producer will also handpick 20 movie makers to attend the festival with them.
“It’ll be kind of like a time capsule, which people in the future, maybe twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, a hundred, two hundred years, could look at that and say ‘oh my god, that’s what it was like’,” said Macdonald.
The video can be about oneself, one’s family or friends. Participants are encouraged to use the form of video to expand their imagination, and productions vary from 15 minutes to 2 hours. All languages are welcomed.
As of July 22, the “lifeinaday” channel ranked 12 on Youtube’s Most Viewed Channel list, despite the fact that all of the actual filming for the project will take place July 24.
