Liberty University Student Killed by Campus Police Officer

A Liberty University student was shot and killed by a campus police officer early Tuesday morning.

Police in Lynchburg, Virginia said that the shooting happened after the student--who remains unidentified--and the officer were engaged in a “physical altercation.”

“There is no ongoing concern for the safety of the students or the community,” police Lt. Dave Gearhart told the Lynchburg News Advance

The fatal shooting happened at the off-campus dorm LU Women’s Annex II in the 3000 block of Odd Fellows Road. 

Shaquille Cook, a junior at Liberty University, said that he head about six or seven gunshots. 

The student who was killed was male, reported WSET.

The university said in a statement that the situation is under investigation. 

Classes are not canceled today.
