Liberal, Kansas Tornado Captured in Photos & Video

A large tornado was seen twisting near Liberal, Kansas, on the evening of Nov. 16. Liberal is located near the Kansas-Oklahoma border. Photos of another tornado in Panpa, Texas, were being shared.

Photos and video of the large tornado were being shared on social media after 6:30 p.m. ET.

It’s unclear if there was any damage done.

A tornado watch was issued for much of southwest Kansas, and it lasts until 9 p.m.

The counties in Kansas include Clark, Finney, Ford, Grant, Gray, Hamilton, Haskell, Hodgeman, Kearny, Lane, Meade, Morton, Ness, Scott, Seward, Stanton and Stevens.

Cities included in the watch include Dodge City, Garden City, Liberal and Elkhart.

The Oklahoma and Texas panhandles have been included in the watch.

According to, “A powerful storm system will bring the risk for severe thunderstorms and flooding from the southern Plains to the Mississippi Valley into Wednesday.”

“A strong storm system will swing across the Plains and will provide the right ingredients for severe thunderstorms to begin to fire from Texas to Kansas early this week,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Becky Elliott was quoted as saying.
