League of Legends, the battle arena PvP game, is among the world’s most popular video games.

Maker Riot Games said that League of Legends has 27 million players on a daily basis, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The figure is more than double the 12 million players daily in October 2012, the last time Riot published the data.

As of now, the game peaks at 7.5 million users playing at the same time, which is a 50 percent increase from the 5 million playing at the same time in March 2013.

“Players continue to make League of Legends the most played video game in the world with: 67 million playing every month, 27 million playing every day, and over 7.5 million playing at the same time during each day’s peak play time. That’s a lot of Teemo kills,” Riot said on its website.

One of the reasons why League of Legends is so popular is in part due to it being free initially.

The game can be played for free, but users can then play for cosmetic items for their character.

In 2013, the game generated more than $624 million in revenue, according to the Journal, citing SuperData Research. A South Korean game, “CrossFire,” generated $957 million.

But a good portion of the success is generated via the League of Legends tournaments, which pit players from around the world against each other.

The last championship tournament was watched online by more than 32 million people around the world.

This week, League of Legends is celebrating the Chinese New Year for a third year in a row with its Lunar Revel event. This means new skins and summoner icon rewards.

The Lunar Revel lasts until Feb. 11, IGN reported.
