The Los Angeles International Airport’s Terminal 4 and Terminal 5 were reportedly evacuated on Friday evening. The evacuation was prompted over fears of a shooter and triggered a massive security response.
Police told KTLA there was no shooting but the terminal was evacuated as a precaution.There was also an anonymous report of a person with a weapon that led to the scare.
“Incident at LAX, earlier reports of shots fired at Terminal 5. No shots were fired, traffic collision only,” the Los Angeles Airport police wrote on Twitter.
Police later said there was a multi-vehicle accident at the Lower/Arrivals Level Roadway in front of the terminal. An anonymous caller also said that there was a person with a weapon at Terminal 4, leading to a police evacuation
A loud sound was apparently heard outside, and travelers reportedly fled the airport as a precaution.
Aerial footage shows a car crashed into the side of the LAX terminal and photos uploaded to Twitter showed numerous police officers with guns drawn.
Officials are searching the area and are investigating the scene.
A passenger who just got off the plane told ABC that officers were yelling at people to get on the ground. Terminal 5 was also reportedly evacuated.
Preliminary reports suggest that one pedestrian may have been injured.
Ambulances were seen around the area, NBC 4 reported.
There were also numerous media and apparent police helicopters overhead.
On Nov. 1, several people were shot–including a TSA officer who was fatally wounded–when a gunman opened fire at a security checkpoint.
